The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New Bedford, MA

The Big Brothers Big Sisters program, a component of Child and Family Services, is a nationally recognized mentor program that has been serving millions of children since 1904. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New Bedford, MA is committed to improving the lives of children by matching them with one to one supported relationships with adult volunteers. Volunteers range in age from 17 to retirement with diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. The children benefit from the program by having someone special to spend time with and enjoy. As a result, their self esteem and school performance are enhanced. Specifically, children with mentors are 52% less likely to skip a day of school, 33% less likely to become involved in violence, and 46% less likely to start using drugs.

Edward L Urbanowski Memorial Fund

The Eddie L. Urbanowski Memorial Fund was established by his family to assist other families in covering non-reimbursable expenses associated with caring for their children undergoing cancer treatment. Currently, the fund is being used to assist in parking fees at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA. Edward L. Urbanowski (Eddie) died on October 26, 2003 after a four year battle with Leukemia. Founded by author, speaker and friend, Johnnie Tuitel in 1995, Alternatives in Motion is based upon the belief everyone should have the opportunity to participate in society and not be hindered by mobility issues.
